Ladies’ Market
Hong Kong is the most vibrant and attractive at night when all the lights are lid up and everyone is out and about. Located in Hong Kong’s busiest district, Mong Kok, the Ladies’ Market is a must-visit. There are tons of stalls selling all kinds of things in the market.
Don’t be fooled by its name though, the Ladies’ Market is not just for ladies nor does it only sell ladies’ items. You can find eccentric toys, knock-off fashion items, souvenirs, phone accessories… the list goes on and on.
There are small alleyways on both sides of the market. In there you can find a lot of hidden restaurants that will make your mouth water. If you do plan to shop in the Ladies’ Market, be sure to bargain to get your ideal price! The market is always super crowded, be extra aware of your personal belongings.
PMQ
Another hot spot for independent special brands is PMQ. Located near Soho, PMQ is also a piece of Hong Kong history. First built in 1889, this building was the Central School, the very first school that provided Western education during the time.
It was then repurposed into the Police Married Quarters in 1951, providing housing for higher-ranked police officers. This building was finally repurposed into a creative, design, and shopping hotspot in 2009 and was named PMQ. There are about 100 creative artisans in PMQ.
Some areas are restaurants, some are exhibition areas, some are shops and some are design studios. If you are looking for something only you can have, be sure to pay PMQ a visit. You will be able to find gems you have never seen in your life. Even if you aren’t planning to shop a lot, you should still visit the building and search for traces of history left inside.
Cat Street
Chinese culture is famous for its jade and tea sets. If you are an antique collector or you are looking for something historic and unique to take home, you should head to Cat Street. Cat street’s official name is Upper Lascar Row, it is Hong Kong’s most famous antique market. Only open during the day, Cat Street has a lot to offer, from small stalls that sell all kinds of interesting vintage pieces to well-established stores that sell priceless antique pieces.
A lot of people are mesmerized by the beauty of jade. In Cat Street, you can find all kinds of jade jewelry, old-fashioned ones as well as trendy pieces. There are also a lot of Chinese styled home decorations, vintage Chinese tea sets, and old paintings.
Cat Street is the perfect place to go treasure hunting but also the ideal place to get to know the old Chinese way of living.
K11 Musea
Only opened in 2019, K11 Musea is the newest and hottest “IT” place for shopping! Located by the Victoria Harbour, K11 Musea was designed as a shopping mall and art museum by the sea, hence its name Musea. This mega shopping mall has a whopping 10 floors holding over 70 local and international brands. They also have over 70 restaurants, from British prestigious tea brand, Fortnum & Mason, to the trendy avocado themed restaurant and the famous Japanese fluffy pancakes.
The interior design of this shopping mall is like nothing you’ve ever seen. Designed to look like a treehouse, and its bronze and copper color theme, this shopping mall takes shopping in style to a whole new level. As the shopping mall is located by the sea, you can easily walk outdoors, be taken away by the amazing Hong Kong skyline whilst enjoying a sea breeze.
Langham Place
Also located in Mong Kong, Langham Place is a department store you wouldn’t want to miss if you are looking for Hong Kong local brands. Though this shopping mall still holds all kinds of international brands, you can find a lot of special Hong Kong brands here. It has a variety of items to choose from.
This 12-floor shopping mall is designed to look like heaven; the ceiling of Langham Place is a beautiful sky with clouds that move around from time to time. The top floor is the sky bar area, where you will be closet to this unique design installment. There are also a lot of amazing bars and restaurants there. There’s also a huge food court in Langham Place. You can easily spend a day here in Langham Place and not get tired.
Festival Walk
Although Festival Walk is a department store that holds a lot of similar brands other shopping malls in Hong Kong have, there is one thing that makes it stand out.
There is an ice skating rink inside the shopping mall! A lot of locals go to Festival Walk and have a blast at the ice skating rink. Either you are an experienced skater or a first-timer hoping to master the art of ice skating, Festival Walk is the place for you.
Tung Chung Citygate
Located in the same district with Hong Kong International Airport, Tung Chung Citygate is a huge outlet shopping mall. Many head to Tung Chung Citygate to find products that are more than half their original price.
There are a lot of brands and even some well-known luxury brands, you will for sure find a lot of things with a huge bargain! Don’t worry, there, of course, are places to eat in Tung Chung Citygate, apart from its spacious food court, there are also a lot of restaurants in the mall, you will definitely find something that suits your taste.
