When people think of Canada, they think of two things: hockey and Ontario. You might not think of Ontario directly, but all the things that come to mind are located in Ontario.
This is unfortunate because there are so many great cities that get overlooked –Calgary and Vancouver are two of the big ones.
Vancouver is one of the greatest cities in Canada, and a day there would be the one you don’t forget.
Unfortunately, this city is so big and has so much to do, that finding where to start can be difficult.
Luckily, below is a list of significant events that are in Vancouver so you can have an idea of how to map your experience.
Get Your Tim Horton’s
Named after a famous hockey player, Canadians take great pride in their Tim’s. Tim Horton’s that is.
Canadians take great pride in having doughnuts and coffee named after a pillar in the hockey community.
To start the day off right, Tim’s is a must. Also, if you are new to Canada, this is a necessity and should be on everyone’s list when taking a trip to Canada. Plus, the coffee there is spectacular!
Visit Granville Island
Granville Island is a wonderful shopping district which is accessible from the downtown Vancouver area. Located on a peninsula, it is accessible via the South end of Granville Street Bridge.
Granville Island is a tourist hotspot because it has a famous public market, an Arts Umbrella, the False Creek Community Centre, and lots of performing arts theatres including Vancouver’s only professional improvisational theatre company Vancouver Theatresports League, the Arts Club Theatre Company and Carousel Theatre.
There are also fine arts galleries as well as splendid views of the water and the skyscrapers of downtown Vancouver.
Admire the Street Art
What trip would be complete without getting the chance to look at amazing art? You would be surprised at the amount of fantastic work street artists in Vancouver do.
Street art in Vancouver makes what would normally be plain buildings you would walk past without noticing some of the best tourist attractions in the city.
If you are one for looking at art, perusing the streets of Vancouver should be planned for your evening. There are even tours available to make sure you see the best of what Vancouver has to offer.
Eat at Meet in Gastown
No day trip would be complete without a meal at one of the best places in town. Gastown is a notorious place in Vancouver, and Meet is a super cool restaurant located in the heart. The Meet is a forward-thinking restaurant where everything is vegan unless otherwise labeled, and sometimes you can’t even notice!
Also, everything is gluten-free, so if you have a gluten allergy, you’re all covered. Even if you are someone who isn’t really into vegan food, it is still worth trying.
Wander around Gastown
Gastown is the oldest suburb and the one that has the most pride. This is a place that is worth looking into because of the ancient architecture and feel.
It certainly isn’t a new place, but it is worth strolling through to explore, especially at night after you just got your meal at Meet. Plus, it is perfect; you can walk out of the restaurant and start exploring.
Spend Time in Nature
You can find days worth of things to do in the downtown area, but some of the best things to do in Vancouver are a little further out. In Vancouver, you can find some of the best nature views in the country.
You can hike through the mountains or talk a walk in a park and just spend some time enjoying the scenery. You can even take a ride on the world-famous Sea to Sky Gondola to see as much as possible.
Overall, Vancouver is a great city and one that is certainly worth visiting. An endless plethora of activities to do during the day will leave you speechless. It may even be enough to make you want to move there.
There are plenty of great homes for sale in Vancouver. It is a beautiful city and a decision that might be worth exploring. Not to mention the extent of the city can’t be explored in one day, so you would have every day to check out the wonders of Vancouver.
