Samesun Venice Beach Hostel
If you’re looking for hostels by Venice Beach, look no further than the Samesun Venice Beach Hostel. The hostel is one of only a few found in the city of Los Angeles. The USA as a whole doesn’t appear to have many hostels, as motels and hotels are usually just as cheap to stay at.
The Samesun Hostel group have recently given up the Samesun Hollywood Hostel and now only have property at Venice Beach and multiple locations in Canada.
We opted to try out the $130+ a night hostel during our West Coast USA road trip.
Samesun Venice Beach Review
Location
If you’re looking for hostels at Venice Beach, the location of the Samesun Venice Beach Hostel couldn’t be anymore perfect.
Samesun Venice Beach Hostel is smack bang in the middle of the action of the infamously quirky Venice Beach, with a wide selection of bars, shops and entertainment all around the building. Just like most of the buildings by Venice Beach, the exterior of the hostel is decorated with eye catching street art which is usefully noticeable from afar.
The windows of the communal area offer some of the best views in the whole of Venice. The famous Venice skate-park and basketball courts (known as the filming location of the classic film ‘White Men Can’t Jump’) can be enjoyed at the same time as the free breakfast.
The decoration on the inside is just as hip as Venice itself!
Bedrooms
We stayed in Room 310 which is a Private Room with a shared bathroom. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and there was a sink, double bed and a wardrobe inside.
Most of the rooms are dorms, and visitors can choose from mixed and single-sex, as well as a couple of other Private rooms, some with private en-suite bathrooms.
Social area
The Samesun Venice Beach Hostel has a shared communal area, where there are plenty of chairs and sofas and a couple of vending machines. Information boards on the wall of the social area offer useful details on the local area, things to do in Los Angeles and events hosted by the hostel, such as limousine parties to Hollywood.
This is the room where guests dine and where everybody gets together at night. The room can become crowded at breakfast so you may have to eat in your room or stand.
Kitchen
The kitchen is huge and has adequate equipment to cook almost anything. There are hobs, an oven, a microwave and a fridge-freezer. Food should be labelled else it will be tossed into the trash.
Breakfast at Samesun Venice Beach is free and consists of toast, pancakes, jam, butter, sliced oranges and fresh coffee. The breakfast is vegetarian and vegan friendly. Enjoy the views from the communal area as you wake up at the heart of Venice Beach.
Bathroom
There are five communal bathrooms available to guests who do not have their own private suite. There are two on each floor and a 5th near the kitchen/common area. The bathrooms can become busy in the morning, as with any hostel. Each bathroom has one toilet and one shower.
There are nearby Public Restrooms on Venice Beach (around a 3 minute walk away) should you need to use them (urgently!).
Luggage Room
There is plenty of space for left luggage in the free luggage room, the staff are really helpful and will give you the key upon request.
The luggage room has useful hangers for smaller backpacks to save on space. It also keeps luggage clean and easy to find.
