Once upon a decade, it seemed near impossible to find vegan food in Manchester. Home of the green hooded parka, the ‘Liam Gallagher walk’, ‘chip barms’, and some of the world’s greatest musicians and football teams, Manchester, or ‘Manchestor’ as locals pronounce, is vast becoming a Vegan Mecca.
If you really want to be a local while you’re in town, try asking for food like this:
“Ee yar, our kid, giz some of that top vegan scran.”
With a rapidly rising population of almost 3 million, the city’s vibrancy doesn’t stop in the city center. The once renowned ‘sketchy’ parts of the city’s outskirts are becoming trendy hubs (and expensive places to live) for students and professionals alike.
Throw back a couple of decades ago, if you asked for a ‘bottomless brunch‘ in Manchester, you may have gotten yourself into a spot of trouble. Manchester has always had it’s rough and tough reputation thanks to several of its famed exports, but the city always boasted a soft center.
Take the recent years of the city binding together after tragedy to create charitable causes as well as new found art and officially adopting the worker bee as the city’s emblem.
The people of Manchester work hard and play harder and vegan food is quickly taking over the city’s districts, bars, chains and stores.
The cityscape of Manchester has rapidly become akin to a mini London with high rise sky scrapers seemingly popping up everywhere and the demand for healthier and diverse foods have spawned a new era of plant based magic across the city, it’s regenerated outskirts and beyond.
Nestled nicely alongside the mountainous Pennines and an array of iconic indie hangouts and converted warehouse nightclubs, visitors will find vegan food in Manchester within every cobbled road, on every corner, in markets, malls and on the streets.
We were pleasantly surprised at how much Manchester has changed over the last couple of years and the sheer volume of 100% plant based eateries as well as the boom of vegan options on the menus of the omnivorous establishments.
If you’re trying one of the vegan eateries in Manchester, be sure to practice some of the local slang:
Now dress for the rain (yes, even in Summer), choose a football team, and work your way through this list of vegan food in Manchester.
We’ve included addresses, contact details, mouthwatering images and social media handles of all of the vegan places to eat.
All in alphabetical order.
Let’s get them all ticked off, our kids!
