Greece. The home of mythology, ancient temples, and civilizations. World-famous villages made of white buildings and blue roofs all overlooking the crystal clear blue waters of the Aegean Sea, delicious food, the sun beating down on you as you explore its cosmopolitan cities and towns that are seemingly stuck in time.
It’s no wonder it’s a must-see for any traveler.
If you’re already planning your trip to Greece, then you’ll undoubtedly want to make the most of the limited time you’ll have.
So, with this in mind, I’ve gathered what you need to know if you’re visiting Greece for the very first time.
Don’t forget your Camera
There are going to be hundreds (if not thousands) of incredible photo opportunities whilst you’re in Greece. From stunning landscapes to perfect sunsets, selfies, and beautiful authentic dishes you’ll want to share with all your friends on social media – if you capture an amazing image, don’t forget to print it out on canvas, so it will last a lifetime!
So, don’t forget to take your camera. If you’re planning on using your smartphone to take pictures, make sure you know how to adjust the settings and focus so you can make the most of your time there. Don’t forget your tripod and selfie stick!
Pack your Sunscreen
Don’t be fooled. The sun in Greece (especially during the summer months) is incredibly intense. So, it makes sense to bring along the strongest factor sunscreen that you can.
Avoid buying a bottle whilst you’re in Greece, as you may find that the price is incredibly expensive compared to what you would pay at home!
Don’t worry about Tipping
If you’re coming from America, where tipping is required, you may be surprised to hear that in Greece, tipping is purely at your discretion.
If you want to leave your waiter a tip then you can choose how much. There is no requirement to do so.
Experiment with Local Cuisine
You simply cannot visit Greece without sampling the incredible food that is on offer, (gyro, moussaka and tzatziki spring to mind) so make sure you try as many local dishes as possible.
If you’re traveling through Greece and visiting different regions, you’ll find that there are many different variations of traditional dishes so try as many as you can!
Remember, siga, siga
Siga, siga translates as – slowly, very slowly. And this is a way of life in Greece.
Grecian people prefer a much slower and relaxed way of life. So, take your time, don’t rush, and soak in as much as possible.
